Methow Valley Internet Service

Webmail Basics

Webmail is handy when you're out of town or otherwise away from your computer and want to check your email. You can get on any computer with an internet connection and access your email via our website.

1) Connect to the internet and type http://www.methownet.com/webmail.php/index.php  into the address bar and you will get a page that looks like the image below.

2) Enter your full email address and password then click the "login" button

3) Once you login you will see a screen similar to the one below. It will open up your inbox. The inbox in the example happens to be empty.

4) The first time you ever use webmail you need to setup how it looks when someone receives mail from you. You only need to do this one time and it will retain your settings. To get there click "Options" in the top menu. You will get a screen like the one below.

5) Click "personal information" in the upper left. You will get a screen that looks like the one below. You only need to fill out your full name (this is what will show in the "from" column when you send an email to someone) and your email address (so if someone replies to your message it will go to the right place). After you fill out these two fields click the "submit" button in the lower right.

This will take you back to the options screen. To get to your inbox simply click the word "INBOX" on the blue sidebar.

6) To compose a new message, click "compose" in the upper left. This will take you to a screen like the one below. Just fill out the necessary fields and click the "send" button near the lower right below the big message window. Hitting "send" will take you back to the Inbox.

7) Something to be aware of. When you look at your email using webmail you are looking directly at the mail server. If you want to be able to download the messages later on your home computer just view the messages in webmail without choosing to delete them. If you know you don't need to see the message again and don't want to download it at home later you can delete it in webmail.

8) When you are finished with a webmail session please logoff the mail server by clicking "sign out" in the upper right.
